Fort Scott wrestlers compete in meets

The Fort Scott Kids Wrestling Club recently sent teams to meets in Linn County, Fredonia, Kan. and Carl Junction, Mo. The club participated in sub-districts Saturday at Pittsburg.

The Linn County Open was held February 18 with 17 Fort Scott wrestlers participating.

First-place winners were Dominic Fly, 10-and-under, 100 pounds, and Michael Durossette, 12-and-under, 125 pounds.

Second-place winners were Graham Hathaway, six-and-under, 40 pounds; C.J. Otter, six-and-under, 43 pounds; Brock Hall, six-and-under, 46 pounds; Trey Holston, six-and-under, 49 pounds; Channing Nielson, 10-and-under, 61 pounds; and Johnathan Lopp, 10-and-under, 90 pounds.

Third-place medalists were Gage Lopp, six-and-under, 58 pounds; Sage Hall, 10-and-under, 82 pounds; Victor Hughes, 10-and-under, 85 pounds; and Blake Cowen, 14-and-under, 135 pounds.

Fourth-place winners were Taylor Engstrom, six-and-under, 58 pounds; Alanna Scott, 10-and-under, 70 pounds; John Hughes, 10-and-under, 90 pounds; Jacob Gillen, 10-and-under, 100 pounds; Cody Hartman, 14-and-under, 175 pounds.

Seven members went to the SEK Kids Wrestling Tournament in Fredonia February 25. The only bracket champion was Hathaway, who won the six-and-under, 40-pound division.

The other six competitors also medaled. Finishing second in their brackets were Otter, six-and-under, 43 pounds; Taylor Engstrom, six-and-under, 58 pounds; and Garrett Baugher, 14-and-under, 175 pounds.

Blake Holt was third in the 10-and-under, 73-pound bracket. Finishing in fourth were Kyle Whetcell, 14-and-under, 125 pounds, and Ian Horn, 14-and-under, 175 pounds.

On February 26, the Fort Scott club had two wrestlers place in a tough six-and-under championship tournament in Carl Junction. Over 300 kids under the age of 6 showed up from Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma to participate.

Fort Scott's medalists were Hall, fifth at 50 pounds, and Hathaway, sixth at 40 pounds.
