Fort Scott JV softball drops Pittsburg

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Fort Scott High School's junior varsity softball team defeated Pittsburg here Monday by a 4-2 score. After that game, a team of freshmen played and lost to the Pittsburg JV 14-1.

In the JV game, Fort Scott led 2-1 after scoring twice in the top of the third inning. But the Purple Dragons tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, forcing extra innings (most JV games are scheduled for five innings).

The Tigers got the win with two runs in the top of the seventh. Katelyn Simpson pitched the entire game for the Tigers, 4-1, allowing one earned run on four hits and four walks with six strikeouts.

Kaleigh Armstrong and Hannah Hawkins each had two hits for the Tigers. Hawkins stole two bases.

The freshman team was held to two hits with Jill Query and Jamie Collins each getting one. Amanda Bowles and Holly Schnichels were the Tigers' pitchers.

The Tiger JV is not scheduled to play again until May 1 against Coffeyville, Kan.
