Council to discuss hiring new city manager

Tuesday, May 2, 2006

In a special meeting set for 6 o'clock tonight, the Nevada City Council is planning an executive session relating to the city manager's position. That session is to be followed by the council's regularly scheduled meeting at 7 o'clock. Both sessions are to take place in council chambers, in the city's public safety building at Ash and Austin streets in Nevada.

The agenda for the regular session includes a meeting including the city's airport board with a discussion of the airport improvement project.

There's also a proposal to place renewal of a 1/2-cent sales tax for transportation on the ballot.for the August election.

The council also plans to discuss bids for modifications to the west garage door at the fire station, which would allow the new rescue truck to be parked in the Fire Station bay area. Bids will also be evaluated for a hazardous materials trailer. The city currently has a 16-foot trailer, but the bids are for a larger, 28-foot trailer.

An emergency ordinance raising the fee for taxi service to $5 per trip will also be discussed. According to city documents, "the large increase in gasoline prices is threatening the program, and changes are needed as soon as possible. This is a vital (and very successful) service for everyone in Nevada. It is particularly important for those who cannot drive, as well as for those who do not have access to a car from time to time."

Under the plan proposed, the reimbursement provided by the city for the taxi rides would be increased but the increase would not be passed on to the customer.

Also on the agenda are a proclamation recognizing Child Care Provider Recognition Day, a number of service agreements, a waiver relating to a fireworks stand and an agreement relating to a proposed soccer camp.
