Lucille K. Holcomb

Lucille K. Holcomb, 89, Nevada, Mo., died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at McCune Brooks Hospital Carthage, Mo., following a brief illness. She was born on July 27, 1916, in Hillsboro, Ill. She and Howard R. Holcomb were married on Dec. 9, 1937, in Nevada. He preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 2001.

She attended and graduated from Walker High School in 1936. She was a member of the Pine Street Baptist Church of Nevada. Lucille worked in a variety of jobs. The last was with the R-5 School District where she cooked for 17 years, retiring in 1978.

Survivors include two sons, Tom and Jerry Holcomb, both of Nevada; two grandsons, Tommy Holcomb and his wife, Tami, Walker, Mo., and Chris Holcomb and his wife, Tammy, Nevada; one granddaughter, Michelle Ast and her husband, Kelly, Nevada; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, John Poland, Butler, Mo.; and also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Hattie Smith Poland.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, July 15, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with David Rorabaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family will receive friends 9:30-10:30 a.m., Saturday prior to the service.

Memorials may be given to the Vernon County Cancer Relief Fund in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
