Lyle Edward "Rocky" Sutton Sr.

Lyle Edward "Rocky" Sutton Sr., 70, Bronaugh, Mo., passed away Saturday, July 15, 2006, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., following a short illness. He was born Oct. 23, 1935, in Mapleton, Ill., to Horace Wilbur Sutton and Doris Irene McCants Sutton. He was married May 11, 1968, in Excelsior Springs, Mo., to Patty Jo Phillips and she survives of the home.

Mr. Sutton grew up in Mapleton and Pekin, Ill., area. He worked all his life in road construction. He moved to Sheldon, Mo., in the early 1980s and lived the remainder of his life in the Sheldon and Bronaugh area. His life evolved around his family. He was an avid mushroom hunter and fisherman and enjoyed feeding and watching birds.

In addition to his wife Patty, survivors include three sons, Lyle E. Sutton Jr., Pekin, Meryle J. Charleton, the state of Ilinois and Randy D. Sutton and wife Lisa, McCune, Kan.; two daughters, Denise Nordyke and husband Kenny, McCune; and Dawn Markus and husband Mike, Sheldon; nine grandchildren, Mark Morgan, Cherokee, Kan., Bobby Morgan, Mason Sutton, and Dalton Sutton, all of McCune, Christopher Lamb Clevenger, Harrisonville, Mo., Breeyn Marcus, Ashley Marcus and Samantha Marcus, all of Lamar, Mo., Stephanie Marcus, Sheldon; and five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Jackie Davis and husband Jim, Pekin, Francis Chapman and husband Doc, Hettick, Ill., Mary Mahan, Pekin, and Betty Leininger, Hettick, Ill.; three brothers, James Patterson and wife Nancy, Chandlerville, Ill., Chuck Patterson, Bill Sutton and wife Pat, all of Pekin. He was also survived by a former son-in-law Robert "Bobby" Morgan who was like a son to them. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Burt Travis officiating.
