Karen Sue Oliver

Karen Sue Oliver, age 49, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., was found Thursday, July 27, 2006, deceased in her home. She was born July 13, 1957, in Fort Scott, the daughter of James H. Oliver Sr. and Margaret Turk Oliver.

Karen was a 1976 graduate of Fort Scott High School and attended Fort Scott Community College. She played basketball at both the high school and community college. While in high school she held the school track record for many years in the 100 and 200 meter race.

Survivors include a son, Jermaine Oliver, Fort Scott; four sisters, Jane McFarland, Joliet, Ill., Lanita Tucker, Nyla Boyington, and Noreen Burrus, all of Fort Scott; six brothers, James Oliver, Stephen Oliver, Jeffrey Oliver, Rory Oliver, Rance Oliver, all of Fort Scott, and Greg Oliver, Pittsburg, Kan. Also surviving is a close nephew, Geoffrey. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Henry D. Whitley.

There was cremation. The Rev. Leroy Nelson will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m., Tuesday, in the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, 10 a.m, until service time at the chapel.
