Freda B. Hunsaker

Freda B. Hunsaker, age 87, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Sunday, July 30, 2006, at the Pittsburg Health and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsburg, Kan. She was born Feb. 5, 1919, in Richards, Mo., the daughter of Lewis Hamlett and Emma Gull Hamlett. She married John Bloom on Dec. 23, 1939. They later divorced. She then married James Arthur "Art" Hunsaker on Feb. 10, 1963. He preceded her in death in 1982.

Freda worked for many years at St. John's Hospital in Joplin, Mo. She retired in 1981. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Fort Scott. She loved spending time with her family, quilting, and watching Atlanta Braves baseball games.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol Russell and husband Robert, Fort Scott, and Sharon Kester and husband Larry, Tyler, Texas; four granddaughters, Laurie Center, Fort Scott, Barbie Johnson, Fort Scott, Shelly Russell, Archie, Mo., and Leita Kester, Grandview, Mo.; five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Art, and by 11 siblings.

Pastor Mahlon Stucky will conduct funeral services for Freda Hunsaker at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 3, at the First Southern Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, at the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main.
