The Cottey College Comets made quick work of two opponents during a pair of volleyball matches in Springfield Saturday.
The Comets took on Baptist Bible College to start the day, beating them in three games, 30-18, 30-15, 30-22.
Cottey then took on Central Bible College later that afternoon and whipped them 30-9, 30-19, 30-18.
The scores in the second match could have been worse but the Comets used the second and third games to work on specific aspects of their attack.
"In Game 2, I challenged them to do back row attacks only," Cottey head coach Marla Kannady said.
In all fairness, Central Bible College had only been practicing for a week before hosting Cottey, while the Comets have gone through their full preseason and a pair of matches.
"That just gives us practice," Kannady said of the specialized work. "I like it when my players will attempt to do specialty attacks in matches."
Kannady said the whole goal is to peak toward the end of the season, during region play and the district tournament.
"We're always thinking about what we can do on our side of the net to better ourselves," she said.
The Comets improved to 3-0 this season.
After three matches Kannady said she likes some of the things she is seeing from this year's club.
"The chemistry is great," she said. "We're doing really well with different aspects of the game.
"I'm seeing some of the freshmen step up and contribute to the success of the program."
The Comets travel to Columbia this afternoon to take on Stephens College, a team Cottey swept in home-and-home matches a year ago.
"I think they were young last year so I think we'll have to play a good game tonight," Kannady said. "And I expect us to do that."
