Virga Mae Demro, 81, Gardner, Kan., formerly of Moundville, Mo., passed away on Thursday Sept. 7, 2006, at Meadowbrook Rehab Hospital in Gardner, Kan. Virga was born at home on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1925, to Paul F. Scholl and Vona Elizabeth Sargeant Scholl in Republic, Iowa. She married Lloyd McKenzie in February of 1945. Later she and Don Demro were married on March 25, 1967, in Plainfield, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1985.

Virga and Don left Iowa in 1970 and made their home in Moundville. She was a member of the Deerfield Baptist Church. Since 1998, Virga lived with her daughter in Shawnee, Kan.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda McKenzie, Shawnee; one grandson, Brad McKenzie, Charles City, Iowa; two granddaughters, Liz Landis, Gardner, and Brenda Bartz, Vinton, Iowa; three great-grandsons, Michael McKenzie, Tyler Bartz, and Justin Bartz; three great-granddaughters, Kaitlin Landis, Abby Bartz, and Mariah McKenzie; one brother, Bud Scholl and his wife Celine, New Hampton, Iowa; and one great-aunt, Vada Sargeant, Ionia, Iowa. In addition to her husband, Don, she was preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Gary, in October of 1988 in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, Sept. 11, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends from 6-7 p.m., on Sunday at the funeral home.
