Above, 2-year-old Lotus VanDyke digs into her Thanksgiving dinner Thursday, at the Nevada American Legion Post in Nevada. VanDyke, along with about 100 other area residentsm joined the Legion for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner including ham, turkey, dressing, potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad and dessert. As of noon, they had served about 30 meals at the Legion and delivered another 25 meals to shut-ins. Volunteers were expecting another 40 to 50 people to arrive before they stopped serving at 2 p.m. The Legion has been providing this free dinner for many years as a prelude to their annual Christmas Tree program, which has provided toys to needy area children for 86 years as well as a Christmas Dinner. At right, Diane Duncan and Raul Hernandez work in the kitchen, dishing up Thanksgiving meals.
