During a regular meeting conducted on Feb. 14, the Hume R-8 School Board approved Superintendent David Quick's suggestion that the board meet at 7:30 p.m. on March 7 and April 10, for the following two school board meetings.

Quick also recommended the school bus stop on the west end of Hume for students having to cross the railroad tracks. The board approved adding a bus stop at the corner of A Highway and Spring Street.

Reviewing the preliminary budget report for the district, Quick told the board the district had spent twice as much on utilities as had been spent during the previous year. He also said he would have the district's salary considerations ready for the next board meeting.

According to Quick, District Area State Supervisor Ron Wilkens, has been helping the district to prepare for the Missouri School Improvement Program review which will begin March 19. The board will meet in the library for an interview with the officials conducting the review at 7 p.m.

Quick thanked the board for their support of his decisions regarding school closings during the recent spate of bad weather. He said there was no way to adequately express thanks for having the snow cleared from the streets, parking areas and the sidewalks during all the bad weather.

During the executive session the board voted to continue Quick as the superintendent and offered him a $68,500 contract for the 2007-'08 school year.

The board discussed the proposed Missouri House Bill 807.

Quick told the board that the bill would allow open enrollment and suggested the board not endorse it.

In other business the board:

* Approved the use of a school debit card.

* Offered a contract to principal Cindy Pirch for $52,500.

* Voted to change a three-month Certificate of Deposit to a 12-month CD.
