Nevada golfers win in Butler, fall at Briarbrook

It was a good showing in Butler and a rough outing at Briarbrook the past couple days for the Nevada Tiger golf team.

Nevada shot a team score of 168 at Butler Monday, beating the hosts and El Dorado Springs in a triangular.

Butler was six shots behind Nevada, and El Do finished way back with a 197.

Tyler Gast led everybody with a nine-hole total of 38, while Zach Braucher was second overall with a 41.

David Cavener shot 43 and Sam Moore carded a 46 to round out the qualifying scores.

Brandon Davis, recently elevated to varsity because of his improved play, shot 47 in the No. 5 slot.

Kyle Ledbetter shot 51 for the junior varsity, while Steph Krohn shot 52.

The JV finished with 213, nine shots behind the Butler JV.

Kenny Hill and Austin DeBrine both shot 55, and Raymond Griffin shot 57 in the JV competition.

The Tigers turned around and played a triangular with Webb City and Neosho at Briarbrook Country Club Tuesday.

The Tigers finished 10 shots higher than Monday, carding a 178 team total

Webb City shot 160 and Neosho 163, as both beat the Tigers.

Gast led Nevada again with a 41. Cavener shot 42 and Braucher 45.

Davis finished with a 50, and Moore shot 51 for the Tiger squad.

Webb City's Andrew Maier and Neosho's Zak Tucker led all golfers by shooting 35.

The Cardinals and Wildcats each had two golfers under 40.

Nevada will play an 18-hole tournament at Joplin's Twin Hills Thursday.
