Two of Nevada High School's choirs will be going to Branson, for events slated to occur a week apart. First, the Soundsational Singers will be going to the Fame World Cup April 13 and 14; then the Treble Effects will go to the Fame Invitational April 21.

The Soundsational Singers will be competing against choirs from all over the United States. The group is one of only two choirs from Missouri to compete. The Treble Clefs will compete for their chance to go to the Fame World Cup next year.

"Then invitational is a preliminary to the World Cup," Morton said. "We were invited to it because of how well we've done in the past."

Wes Morton, NHS music director, praised the students for their dedication.

"The MAP tests are during this time and they will be focused on them, but I think they will be able to concentrate on these as well," Morton said. "They are a great group of kids and they've done a lot to raise money for this."

It will take $5,000 for both choirs to go and the students have been raising funds during the year.

Two individuals have made donations to help the students with their efforts, Tedd Maxfield and Ann Jones. Maxfield donated a hot air balloon ride and Jones donated a quilt. A drawing was held March 24 during the Show Choir Showcase to determine the winner of the ride, Alberta Hagenson, a grandparent of one of the choir members, and a drawing for the quilt will be held May 8.

Tickets for the quilt are still available from choir members until that time.

"Tedd Maxfield donated a balloon ride," Morton said. "I don't think it has happened yet, I think the weather delayed it. We'll hold a drawing for the quilt during high school Spring Concert."
