The Cottey Comets signed their first player of the recruiting season this week, netting Brittany Smith, a 5-9 guard from Hartville, Mo.

Smith was a three-year starter at Camdenton before moving to Hartville for her senior season. The Hartville Lady Eagles won the Missouri Class 2 championship this year.

Smith averaged seven points and three rebounds per game with Hartville, but had 12 points, five rebounds and six assists per contest her last year in Camdenton.

"Brittany's an excellent start to this (recruiting season)," Cottey head coach Dave Ketterman said.

Ketterman said he is trying to find nine recruits this year after losing seven of 10 starters from last season.
