James Fowler Lutes

James Fowler Lutes, 61, Wichita Kan., passed away on April 24, 2007, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wichita, Kan., following a lengthy illness. He was born July 6, 1945, in Nevada, Mo., to James Forrest Lutes and Frances May Fowler Lutes.

Jim was born and reared in this area and spent most of his life here. He graduated from Sheldon High School in 1963. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years stationed in Turkey for a time. Following the service, he made his living in the Lutes' refrigeration business. He was an avid square dancer. Jim attended the First Presbyterian Church of Nevada.

Survivors include his sisters, Jane VanLue, Granby, Mo., and Sue Costley, Sheldon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sherrie Fox.

Committal services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 5, at the Lutes farm, Sheldon, with pastor Rick Patterson officiating. Friends may call Tuesday and until 9 a.m., on Saturday at the Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Memorial may be given to the Vernon County Cancer Relief Fund.
