Fire at Rich Hill

J.W. Marquardt returned home this afternoon from Rich Hill, where he went Wednesday to see his brother Chas. F. Marquardt, who suffered a big loss by fire early Wednesday morning. The Marquardt grocery store, ice and storage building and a big barn were entirely consumed, the loss being estimated at $3,000, with only about $1,000 insurance. The origin of the fire is not known. A remarkable feature of the fire was that a tank containing 20-gallons of coal oil was in the building and after the fire was still in tact. The entire building burnt to the ground, but the tank of oil did not explode nor was it burned.

On inside looking out

Sheriff Les Hunt said today there are several young lads in Nevada who may find themselves on the inside of the County Jail if they do not stay away from outside the jail in the future.

Sheriff Hunt said the particular boys have been crawling up to the window to chat with some other lads who are serving sentences for getting on the wrong side of the law. An expensive screen and window has been broken at the jail as a result of this chumminess, Sheriff Hunt said.
