Kimbrough tops in Southwest Conference

Nevada senior Ryan Kimbrough proved to be the top tennis player in the Southwest Conference by winning at No. 1 singles during the conference tournament Tuesday in Joplin.

Kimbrough won the No. 1 singles bracket, the only Tiger player to take first.

Jake Holmes placed second at No. 2 singles, falling in the championship match to Chad Dwyer of Neosho.

Taylor Chapman (No. 4 singles), James Smith (No. 5) and Ethan Holmes (No. 6) all placed third in singles play in their respective brackets.

Devin Ozkal (No. 3) placed fourth.

The doubles portion of the tournament was postponed because of weather and will be finished Wednesday at Webb City.

Nevada was in third place in the standings following singles play, with nine points. Webb City was in the lead with 19 points, while Neosho had 13 points and sat in second place.

Carthage was in fourth place with a single point. McDonald County does not have a tennis team.

Nevada is scheduled to visit Clinton for a dual today.
