100 years ago

Fire at the H.M. Duck residence

The H.M. Duck residence, one of the most palatial and modern homes of this city was greatly damaged by fire and water Wednesday evening and another fire has been added to the long list. The origin of the fire is unknown. The fire was first discovered by the family of Will Harper about 8:35 p.m., when smoke emerging from the basement was discovered. The alarm was immediately turned and the fire boys promptly responded and the water company furnished exceptionally strong water pressure.

50 years ago

High winds Wednesday wreck Sheldon barn

High winds demolished a large stock and feed barn belonging to Ezra L. Phipps near Sheldon yesterday. The barn was 52 feet by 64 feet.

The high winds also uprooted several trees and tree limbs were blown down. The Phipps barn is located about one mile east of the Sheldon school.
