100 years ago

Raided a Missouri town

DEEPWATER, Mo. -- The post office, K.C.C. & S. depot and office of the Deepwater Mercantile Company were entered early this morning.

About $430 was secured at the post office and some small change taken from the Mercantile company. The depot safe door was blown off, but the inner lining held intact. The mail sack which came in on the night train and was left at the depot was ransacked and all the letters opened.

Berry found guilty; appeals the verdict

At a hearing in Magistrate Court Friday, James Lee Berry, 18, Nevada, was found guilty on charges of obstructing traffic on a state highway and careless and imprudent driving. He was fined $10 plus the costs on each charge.

Young Berry appealed the verdict to Circuit Court and is at liberty on bail bond.
