The deadline for entering in one of more than 2,500 Family Living classes for the Ozark Empire Fair, in Springfield, Mo., July 27 -- Aug. 5, is June 25. There are several new competitions including contests promoting Breast Cancer Awareness, a Text Messaging Speed Contest, Cooking with Coffee classes, Just Call Me Martha Craft Contest and Elvis at the Fair Contest.

Entries have to be posted by June 25, but participants have until the fair's entry days to complete their creations. Competition details and entry forms can be accessed online at the fair's Web site at www.ozarkempirefair.com.

The Fair is promoting breast cancer awareness with a number of events to be held this year. They include "Bake for the Cure" baking contests sponsored by Fleishmann's Yeast and "Think Pink for the Cause" events featuring pink crafts, pink needlework and pink baked items.

"It's kind of grown," said Exhibits Director Mary Quinn.

"When Fleishmann's Yeast announced their new contest it inspired me to create the "Think Pink for the Cause" contests for further promotion of breast cancer awareness."

Other new special events division competitions offer new entry opportunities.

Participants in the "Elvis at the Fair" event will take a photo during the fair and then use their own computer to add an image of Elvis enjoying the Ozark Empire Fair -- Elvis riding the merry-go-round, Elvis showing a cow, Elvis eating a corndog, etc.

In the "Text Messaging Speed Contest," participants will be given identical messages to text to the judge. The winners will be determined by speed and accuracy.

"Cooking with Coffee" is another new special events division competition. Participants will create food products using coffee grounds or liquid. Classes include beverage, baked Item and other food item.

The "Just Call Me Martha Craft Contest" will be limited to the first nine entries registered. Each contestant in this event will be given a packet of various craft supplies to create whatever they wish in the 30 minutes allowed.
