Quilt show winner announced

Friday, June 22, 2007

The Bushwhacker Quilt Guild Show was held at the City/County Community Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday during this year's Bushwhacker Days festivities. A beautiful quilt was given away in a drawing, and 104 quilts were set on display for viewers. A quilt owned by Deb Butler, at left, won Best of Show by the end of the day. Butler's mother, Shirley Volker Peters, began the quilt about 10 years ago and was about 90 percent done with it when she became diagnosed with breast cancer. Peters lost her battle to cancer and wasn't able to finish the quilt. Years later, Butler found the quilt in one of her mother's boxes and asked Ann Jones to complete and quilt it for her. "The quilt was completed in her honor, in honor of an incredible woman," Jones said.
