The earth shook in Missouri

ST. LOUIS -- A report was received today from Bismark, Mo., 75 miles south of here, that two distinct earthquake shocks were felt there yesterday afternoon. The vibration was sufficient to shake buildings and rattle windows and dishes. No damage was done. According to Dr. J.C. Eaton, a member of the state board of health, the shocks appeared to pass from east to west and lasted three to four seconds.

15-month-old girl drowns in pond at farm near Milo

A 15-month-old girl drowned in a pond at her farm home near Milo late Friday afternoon. She was Loretta Diana Eagan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Eagan, who had just moved to Vernon County from Kansas City a week ago.

Coroner Richard Shorten said the child wandered from her parents for a few minutes and fell into the pond. Mr. Eagan discovered her and tried artificial respiration, but could not revive her. The parents rushed her by car to Nevada hospital but she was pronounced dead upon arrival at 5:15 p.m.
