Ten die of heat in day

PITTSBURG -- Ten Fatalities due to the intense humidity and oppressive heat occurred here today, making over a score of deaths in the past 36 hours.

The maximum temperature registered today by the United States weather bureau was 84 degrees. This record, however, was taken on the 24 floor of the Farmers Bank building, and street thermometers registered from four to six degrees higher.

El Dorado Springs Picnic is underway

The annual El Dorado Springs Picnic officially opened today wit the usual large crowd attending the festivities. An even larger crowd is expected for evening activities after the weather has cooled a little.

The three-day celebration features the Cherokee Shows carnival, which is spread down Spring, Main and Broadway streets, band concerts in the park every afternoon and evening, amateur contests each afternoon, and country music concerts.
