Only a paper war Bryan says

William J. Bryan believes that only war this country will have with Japan will be conducted on paper, and that the country is now in the midst of the battle. He said so that the Union depot this morning while waiting for a train to Sedalia says the Kanasas City Star of the 18th.

"There is no danger of a war" Mr. Bryan said "and the talk of is nonsense. It furnish hadline for gatherers of sensational news and give the advocates of a big navy a change to demand more ships.

Nevadans seek the shady spots

Nevadans sought a shady spot yesterday as temperatures soared to readings of more than 100 degrees in downtown areas. Thermometer readings on the Square ranged from 102 to 104 degrees and the recording thermometer at the Daily Mail office registered 102 at three different times between 2 and 4 o'clock, dropping slightly between the high readings.
