Tuesday, Oct. 2, the Vernon County Adult Drug Court held its 13th graduation celebration. The graduation was held to honor Frank Schooley, the 33rd graduate of the court, a diversionary program established in Vernon County in July 2001.

Drug Court offers a four-phase program focusing on addiction rather than criminal behavior. The court members meet weekly to discuss the standings of all participants in the program and possible changes. "The first phase is very intense," said Circuit Judge James Bickel, "by the fourth phase it is time to spread your wings."

Bickel hosted the event, which was attended by the majority of the Vernon County Drug Court Committee and several friends and family members of Schooley. Also acknowledged for her attendance was Vernon County Circuit Clerk Tammi Beach.

Following a brief prayer conducted by Minister Wes Anderson of the Community Christian Church, Judge Bickel commended schooley for his devotion to the drug court program. "It became almost boring since all of Franks' progress notes just said great job or good work," said Bickel, "he didn't receive even one reprimand."

Schooley celebrated his 652nd day of sobriety from alcohol during the event, and was applauded for his earlier than expected graduation, barely spending 19 months in the program. Along with working as a professional painter Schooley credits church as the cornerstone of his timely recovery.

Also awarded in the ceremony were Samantha Wolf and Darrin Hodgins, both receiving unexpected certificates into the fourth phase of Drug Court.

Anonymity is offered to Drug Court participants; names were printed with the permission of the participants.
