Virginia Maxine DeMott

Virginia Maxine DeMott, 87, of Fort Scott, died Thursday evening, Oct. 11, 2007, at the Mercy Health Center. She was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Blue Mound, Kan., the daughter of Palmer and Sylvia (Parnell) Russell. She married Ray Everett DeMott Dec.17, 1938 in Iola, Kan. He preceded her in death March 13, 2003.

She was a grocery clerk for Whiteside's IGA for 18 years, retiring in 1982, and she was a homemaker. She also worked for the Western Insurance Company for three years, and was a member of the Federated Church of Blue Mound.

Virginia is survived by two daughters; Janet Johnson, of Farlington, Kan., and Beverly Lind, of Fort Scott, and a son; Ronald DeMott, of Eudora, Kan., five grandsons, and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Ray, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Lloyd Houk will conduct funeral services for Virginia at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, with burial at the Sunny Slope Cemetery in Blue Mound. Visitation will be Monday evening, Oct. 15, from 7 p.m. -- 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
