Wilbur C. "Speedy" Bruegger

Wilbur C. "Speedy" Bruegger, at 86, of Nevada, passed away on Oct. 14, 2007, in Joplin, Mo. Wilbur was born on Aug. 17, 1921, to Edwin John and Mattie Bell Keys Bruegger and reared in Bushton, Kan. He lived in Farmington, N.M., for 38 years; Hutchinson, Kan., for 4 years and had lived in Nevada, since 2003.

He was a graduate of Bushton High School in 1939 and was an alumni of Fort Hays State University. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He worked in retail sales and as a repairman with Jones & Laughlin Oil Field Company for 15 years. He was a banker at First National Bank and Wells Fargo Bank, both in Farmington.

Mr. Bruegger was also a member of the Bushton United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of Sigma Tau Gamma at Fort Hays State University.

Survivors include one brother, Virgil Bruegger, of Nevada, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 19, at Elliott Chapel, in Hutchinson, Kan., with the Rev. Wes Anderson officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 a.m., Friday, Oct. 19, at Bushton Cemetery.

Friends may call now and until Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. There will be a military graveside conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
