Blu-Jays still control destiny

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Despite a 40-0 loss to Pittsburg Colgan at Hutchinson Field here Friday night, Pleasanton still has control over its playoff fate and can advance to the Kansas Class 2-1A post-season with a win over Humboldt at home Thursday night.

Colgan, the third-ranked team in Class 2-1A, improved to 8-0 and clinched the District 5 championship as it has beaten both Pleasanton and Humboldt. Since Uniontown is 0-2 and has lost to both teams, the winner of Thursday’s battle between the Cubs and Blu-Jays gets the second playoff berth from the district.

Colgan quarterback Kenny Wachter threw for 220 yards and four touchdowns as the Panthers adjusted to Pleasanton’s blitz schemes. Tino King, Colgan’s tailback, rushed for 109 yards on 11 carries before leaving with an injury in the third quarter.

Pleasanton, 4-4, committed five turnovers and threw an interception.
