NHS event honors Vietnam veterans

LTC MIke Riggs awards 1 of 30 Vietnam Veterans to be honored during Fridays Veterans' Day Assembly at Nevada High School, with a Medalion and honorary letter from Governer Matt Blunt.

Following Nevada High School's ceremonial Eleven Bells on Friday, community members along with NHS students honored 30 Vietnam Veterans during the school's Veterans Day assembly.

The NHS JROTC kicked off the event with a Posting of Colors flag presentation followed by the Tiger Band playing the National Anthem.

Ashley Jenkins of the JROTC explained the history of Veterans Day and how it came to be. The Middle School choir then sang for the assembly, "Let Freedom Ring."

State Representative Barney Fisher stood before the veterans to read a letter of appreciation from Governor Matt Blunt to be given along with an honorable medallion to the Vietnam Veterans celebrated by the event. The presentation of the letters and medallions was performed by LTC Mike Riggs.

The ceremony was ended with the JROTC presenting the folding of the American Flag as Lt. Col. Will Breckenridge and CA1C Colleen Didden explained what each of the 12 folds represents.
