Late game rally pulls Comets ahead of Eagles

After a slow start, the Cottey Comets outscored Rhema Bible College 43-23 in the second half of their game Friday night to beat the Eagles 59-54 in their second meeting of the season raising their record to 6-2 for the season.

Cottey handily won their home opener Nov. 2 against Rhema Bible 65-47.

During the first half Cottey not only had trouble scoring, but also were unable to stop the Eagles from jumping out to a 31-16 lead.

In the second half, Cottey sophomore Melissa Hedges found the basket, scoring 18 of her 20 points for the night and completing 8 of 8 free throws. Brittany Smith, who was also held to two points in the first half, scored 11 points in the second half, ending the game with 13 points.

Jessica Roberts, who scored 9 of Cottey's 16 points in the first half, ended the game with 15 points, Meleah Painter scored 6 points and Liz Wagoner added 5 points.

Cottey will play their final game of the fall semester Wednesday, when they host Region XVI rival Penn Valley Community College, with a 7 p.m. tip-off at Hinkhouse Center Gymnasium.

This game was originally scheduled for Tuesday night; however, it was postponed due to weather and road conditions.
