Grant enables interagency cooperation

Thursday, January 10, 2008
Representatives of Vernon County's rural fire departments met with Sheriff Ron Peckman to accept several emergency vehicle bar lights no longer used by the Vernon County Sheriff's Office. Following the acceptance of a $10,000 Law Enforcement Block Grant, the Sheriff's Office was able to upgrade to newer warning lights for its vehicles. The used lights, still in working order, were available to be used by other county emergency departments. "We've been able to update ours through grants, so it was a chance to help out the rural Fire Departments through an inner-agency agreement," Peckman said. Above, Jimmy Greer, Milo, and Bill Smith, Deerfield, accept the lights for the Milo and Deerfield fire departments. Walker and Richards Fire Departments are also slated to receive lights.
