El Dorado Springs group continues revitalization efforts

The Spring City Revitalization Group, El Dorado Springs, believes Main Streets are making a comeback. "The current trend is to revitalize historic downtowns to improve and beautify as well as encourage private investment, business development, and tourism. Adding additional parking and downtown housing assists in increased foot traffic," said group member Rachel Parker-Healy.

Healy reports that Nick Sibley and his family have renovated and created a loft apartment above what is now Hacker's Jewelry Store on the corner of Spring Street and Main, El Dorado Springs. As the revitalization progresses, there are plans for additional living spaces like the Sibley's have created. With vision and dedication to the project, progress and preservation are becoming visible signs of success, Parker-Healy said.

El Dorado Springs is currently preparing to begin work on sidewalks and lighting as well.

"We hope that you will continue to follow our progress. The brick and granite program has become an amazing attribute to the downtown. If you wish to participate, we welcome you to call now to reserve the spot for your brick or granite piece. This has been such a positive program and we will continue with it as long as we have space available," Parker-Healy said. To inquire about selecting and engraving a brick, call Jack Tough at (417) 876-7720 for details.

The Spring City Revitalization Group meets every Wednesday morning at 11:30, at 100 South Main Street in the park community building. Meetings are open to the public.

Comments, suggestions or ideas may be brought to the meetings or mailed to SCRG, 100 South Main Street, El Dorado Springs, MO 64744.
