Tabor celebrates 100th birthday

Wednesday, January 23, 2008
"I am 100 years old," said Nevada resident Lola Tabor as she sat among friends and family celebrating her birthday Monday. Born in an Oklahoma sod house on Jan. 21, 1908, Tabor has spent most of her life in Vernon County as a waitress or cook. She had seven brothers and sisters and a husband named Whitey Tabor. Friends and family spoke of the numerous stories Lola had previously shared with them and noted what a caring woman she is. "She was always working and her door was always open," said one of Tabor's friends. During the party a letter was read congratulating her on the long life she has lived and wishing her a happy 100th birthday. The letter was signed by the President of the United States, George W. Bush. Once Tabor blew out her candles and announced her age, she gave everyone listening some good advice. "Take care of yourself," she said, "just do as you please, whatever is good for you."
