Jayhawk-Linn posts Thursday sweep

MOUND CITY, Kan. -- Jayhawk-Linn finished its second regular season of high school wrestling by sweeping Lenexa St. James Academy and Erie here Thursday.

The Jayhawks (5-7) defeated St. James 29-22 and Erie 39-12.

In the St. James dual, Tyson Baker (18-14) scored a technical fall at 145 pounds. It was the only Jayhawk victory on the mat as the others, by David Troth (15-23) at 135, Briar Snyder (16-14) at 160, Alan Johnson (15-3) at 215 and Caleb Jackson (6-5) at 285, were via forfeit.

In the Erie dual, Troth pinned Kyle Panek at 135, Baker pinned Frank Sulenes at 145 and Johnson pinned Matt Holland at 215. Quincy Hodges (20-13) took a 7-4 decision over Jamie Riley at 152 and Mason Craig (119, 12-19), Jerod Avery (140, 12-16) and Jackson received forfeits.

Jackson was also a winner in an exhibition match, pinning Matt Holland of Erie.

Jayhawk-Linn's varsity will go to Eureka for one of four Class 3-2-1A Regional Wrestling Tournaments next weekend.
