Maxine Marie Darling

Maxine Marie Darling, 89, of Nevada, formerly of Sheldon, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at Barone Alzheimer Care Center, in Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born Aug. 11, 1918, to Ira Mixer and Flossie Richardson Mixer. She married Harry A. Darling on July 13, 1940, in Olathe, Kan. He preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1986.

Maxine grew up in Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School, in 1936. Following high school, she went to work for Montgomery Ward, in Kansas City, Mo. She and her husband lived and worked in Kansas City for many years until moving back to Sheldon following their retirement in 1974. She worked at the Sheldon library and also at the Sheldon City Hall. She was a member of the Sheldon Methodist Church and also the Jolly Senior Citizens of Sheldon where she enjoyed playing cards with her friends.

Survivors include one daughter, Ann Darling Saylor, of Sheldon; three step-children, Joe Saylor Jr., of Sheldon, Pam Saylor and her husband Dave Orth, of Kansas City, Deb Saylor Burns and her husband Sean, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mildred Wintjen, of Nevada. In addition to her husband Harry, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ivan Mixer and one sister, Thelma Barrett.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, March, 1, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery, in Sheldon. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
