Benefit lunch helps local family with medical expenses
A hog roast and fundraising drawing to benefit Darrell and Janet Dale is planned for March 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the old high school gym in Rich Hill A full meal, including smoked pork, baked beans, baked potato, coleslaw, dessert and a beverage, will be served with free will donations accepted. All proceeds will benefit the Dales in Darrell's battle with multiple myeloma..
Tickets are now available for eight donated prizes, including a $350 gas gift card, an Adirondack settee and side table, a diamond necklace and earrings, a Stars Across America quilt, a Savage .17 caliber gun, Campbell Baked Goodies (12), a weekly automatic car wash for a year (52 tokens) and a Family Fun Pack (four Worlds of Fun tickets, $50 in gas certificates and $50 spending cash), to be given away in a drawing. Tickets may be purchased at Security Bank or the UM Telephone office in Rich Hill or at the event on March 9.
The Lutheran benevolent organization, Thrivent also will contribute to the effort with a matching donation of up to $750.
The Dales are lifelong residents of Rich Hill, both graduating with the Rich Hill High School Class of 1970. As of March 2008, Darrell will have worked for KCPL for 31 years. Both are active supporters of the community, the school system and their church.
In May 2007 Darrell was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, which is a cancer of the blood plasma which is incurable, but treatable, experts say.
Since that time Darrell has received treatments at Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy in Little Rock, Ark., one of the foremost treatment centers for myeloma in the country.
The gym is located at First and Olive streets, Rich Hill. From U.S. Highway 71, go west into Rich Hill on A Highway/Walnut Street. Turn right on First Street and go one block to the old high school,
