Hazel Alta Clark Leonard

Hazel Alta Clark Leonard, 93, Nevada, left us to be with Dad and Grandpa on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at Christian Health Care, in Nevada. She was born April 24, 1914, in Metz, Mo., to Henry Benjamin Clark and Ada Anna Mowry Clark. She married Otis Leonard on Oct. 13, 1934, and Otis preceded her in death Jan. 28, 1970.

Hazel attended school at Lake School, northwest of Nevada, and also attended school at Olympia, Mo. As a young lady, Hazel worked at the Pacetown and Olympia County stores near Olympia. While working at Olympia she waited on Pretty Boy Floyd. She worked at Cottey College, in Nevada, from 1947 thru 1962. She then moved to Kansas City and worked at Stevens Restaurant from 1962 to 1964. Hazel then worked at Peterson Cap and Gown, in Kansas City, from 1964 to 1970. After Hazel quit working for Petersons, she always went back and selected her grandchildren's cap and gowns for their high school graduations. Hazel moved back to Nevada, and went back to work at Cottey College from 1970 until her retirement in 1989. Hazel was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, in Nevada.

She is survived by her children, Mary Joanna Pritchett and her husband Lloyd, of Independence, Mo., and Gary Clark Leonard and his wife Barbara, of Milo; six grandchildren, Merlin Pritchett and his wife Dee Dee, of Independence, Marilynn Jungmann and her husband Paul, of Independence, Lisa Dolan and her husband Jim of Blue Springs, Mo., Hazel Mac Larson and her husband Joe, of Grain Valley, G. Clark Leonard, of Milo, and Jodie Leonard, of Nevada; 10 great-grandchildren, Heather Larson and her husband Bryan, of Grain Valley, Mo., Jason Pritchett, of Branson, Cody Pritchett, of north Kansas City, Mo., Bree and Jacob Dolan, of Blue Springs, Arron and Gabe Larson, of Grain Valley, Kaleb Leonard, of Milo, Klayton Leonard, of Nevada, Allison Bumbaugh and her husband Jeremy, of Lamar; seven great-great-grandchildren, Beau Leonard, of Milo, Caleb and Kearstin Larson, of Grain Valley, Michaele Jungmann, Bryant and Caden Belcher, and Nathan Bumbaugh, all of Lamar.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Ruby Barnett, Alice Roberts, William Clark, Fern Sumner, two infant brothers, Glenn and Melvin, and one infant sister, Jessie.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 6, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with pastor John Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, in Nevada.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, March 5, between 6 and 7 p.m.

The family suggests that memorials may be made in her honor to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
