Gale L. Carpenter

Gale L. Carpenter, 61, of Nevada, formerly of Bronaugh, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 6, 1947, in Nevada, to Harold Franklin Carpenter and Ollie Maurine Smith Carpenter.

Gale was a lifelong resident of Vernon County. He graduated from Bronaugh High School in 1965. He served in the Kansas Army National Guard. Gale ran Carpenter's Service Station, in Moundville, for a number of years. He also worked for a number of years at the Nevada State Hospital, until his retirement. Gale enjoyed coaching softball and little league baseball in Nevada for several years and playing bingo. He attended the Community Christian Church, in Nevada, and the Bronaugh Christian Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Janet Carpenter, of Kansas City; one sister, Marcella Wallace and her husband Bob, of Nevada; his father, Harold Carpenter, of Nevada; and two nephews, Justin Wallace and family, of Carthage, and Jerad Wallace and family, of Clearfield, Utah. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1991, and one infant brother, Lloyd Dean Carpenter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, April 23, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Wes Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Welborn Cemetery, in Moundville. Friends may call now and until the hour of services and the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m., Tuesday evening, April 22, at the funeral home.
