Four injured in stabbing incident on Thursday

Tuesday, April 22, 2008

A Thursday night squabble resulted in four of those involved suffering stab wounds. According to Vernon County Sheriff Ron Peckman two of the four were sent to Springfield with serious injuries and the other two were treated and released from the Cedar County Memorial Hospital. According to Peckman one of the two sent to Springfield has emerged from the Intensive Care Unit but is still in the hospital.

The incident is still under investigation due in part to the fact that all of the participants are related somehow to each other and getting information from them has been difficult.

"They all seem to be related somehow or some way," Peckman said. "They all pointed fingers at each other and blamed the others for the fight."

Peckman said he believed alcohol was involved in the incident.

"It does appear that alcohol was involved," Peckman said. "How much is anybody's guess."

Peckman said a disagreement apparently started in one's home and moved outside where it turned vicious.

"Some of the other family members said they all went outside and when they came back in they were bleeding all over everything," Peckman said.

Peckman said the investigation was moving forward but it would be a few days before the department would forward the evidence it was collecting to Vernon County Prosecutor Lynn Ewing III for action.

"We're getting more information but it's slow going," Peckman said. "We'll present what we have to Lynn when we get it all together."

The names of those involved were not available on Monday.
