Jewel V. Long, 90, of rural Nevada, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Nevada Regional Medcial Center following a brief illness. She was born Nov. 22, 1917, to O.C. Null and Janie Elliott Null. She married Rex Franklin Fleming on April 1936, in Butler, and he preceded her in death in 1965. She later married John L. Long in March 1973, in Nevada, and he preceded her in death in July 1997.

Jewel was born and reared in rural Vernon County. She attended the Glenwood School. Jewel was a lifelong resident of Vernon County and a farmer most of her life.

Survivors include; two sons, Delbert Fleming and his wife Almeda, of Witchita, Kan., and Randy Fleming, of Nevada; three grandchildren, Christy Dawn Harroald, of Turon, Kan., Jeff Fleming, of Nevada, and Bill Fleming, of Nevada; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Orval Null and his wife Rosemary, of Raymore, Mo.; seven step-children, Alecia, Lennie, Johnny, Ronnie, Lillian, Rex and Hayden; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one niece, two nephews and one daughter-in-law, Marie Fleming, of Nevada. She was preceded in death by one son, Jerry D. Fleming, in 2005, and one brother, Arthur E. Null, in 1984.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, April 26, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Hubert Fox officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, in Nevada. Family and friendsd may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
