Ida P. Heathman, 70, of Nevada, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2008, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness. She was born April 9, 1938, in Fort Scott, to George Sylvester Hogan and F. Pauline Lowry. She married Bert Allen Heathman on Sept. 24, 1955, in the Rinehart Christian Church. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1988.

Ida was born in Fort Scott, but reared in Richards, Mo. She graduated from Richards High School. Ida worked for a time in the cafeteria at Fort Scott High School, but was primarily a homemaker. She was a member of the Community Christian Church, of Fort Scott. She enjoyed bowling, ceramics and was a substitute mother for many, many children.

Survivors include: two sons, Greg D. Heathman, of Nevada, and Allen Heathman, of Nevada; two daughters, Ruby W. Heathman, Nevada, and Rhonda E. Pottorff, of Nevada; five grandchildren; two sisters Elaine Harth and her husband Wayne, of Richards, Alice James and her husband David of Chanute, Kan.; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Hogan.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 24, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, in Fort Scott. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon until the hour of service. The family receives friends from 10-11 a.m., Saturday prior to the services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or On My Own in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
