John Brian Stafford, 49, of Moundville, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, in Sheldon, as the result of a motorcycle accident. He was born Dec. 9, 1958, in California, to Gail Walter Stafford and Wanda Jean Smith Stafford. He married Jana G. Mather, on Dec. 4, 2007, in Miami, Okla., and she survives of the home.

John came to Nevada with his family at an early age. He grew up in Nevada and attended Nevada schools. He was a member of the Community Christian Church. He served in the United States Army from 1976-1978 stationed in Germany. John worked many years as a painter and mechanic living all his life in Vernon County.

In addition to his wife Jana, he is survived by; one son, Travis Stafford, of Nevada; three step-children, Ginger Nowak, Jeff James and Jessica Mather, all of Nevada; three grandchildren, Bailee Stafford, Brian Elden Stafford and Tessa Denise Stafford; one brother, Jerry Stafford, of Nevada; one sister Dixie Thomas and her husband Chuck, of Mount Vernon, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Brian Gail Stafford and Tessa Marie Stafford; one sister, Gaila Schooley, and one brother, Rick Stafford.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, May 23, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with the Rev. Wes Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery, in Fort Scott. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., on Thursday at the funeral home.
