Jimmie Sue May Fawcett, 61, a former resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died May 12, 2008, in Miami, Fla., as the result of a water accident. She was born Sept. 11, 1946, in El Dorado Springs, Mo., the daughter of Clarence Cleo "Jim" May and Georgia E. Flack May. She moved with her family to Fort Scott from Pittsburg, Kan., while in the third grade. Jimmie Sue graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1964 and from Kansas State College of Pittsburg in 1970 with a major in sociology. While in college she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority, Kappa Delta Pi, and Psi Chi S.E.A. She married Ronald Ray "Oogie" Ehmann in Girard, Kan., on Jan. 13, 1967, and after college graduation, they made their home in Miami, Fla., where Jimmie Sue was a social worker for the city of Miami until she started teaching at Riviera Middle School. After Ron's death on June 9, 1975, Jimmie Sue returned to school earning her master's from the University of Miami School of Nursing serving 26 years as a nurse at Baptist Hospital of Miami. She married James Fawcett on Dec. 5, 1981, in Miami, Fla. She was a member of the Saint Louis Catholic Church and the Coconut Grove Sailing Club.

Surviving are her husband, James Fawcett; stepchildren, Debbie Sanchez of Jacksonville, Fla., and Scott Fawcett who is currently serving in Iraq with the United States Army; sister, Brenda Cummins and husband, Mike of Joplin, Mo.; nieces, Dawn Ehmann Moore and husband George of Ocala, Fla.; Kim Ehmann Ledbetter of Birmingham, Ala.; Samantha Durrant, of Marshfield, Mo.; Michelle Smith and husband Jimmy of Liberal, Mo.; nephews, Bob Ehmann, Ocala, Fla.; William Ehmann, Rutland, Vt.; Timothy Young, Vineland, Fla.; step-grandchildren, Julian and Adrian Sanchez; sister-in-law, Pat Young and husband, Bill, of Vineland, Fla.; brother-in-law Preston Ehmann, Rutland, Vt.; and eight great-nieces and seven great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, and nephews, Preston Ehmann II and Dirk Ehmann.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on May 17, at Saint Louis Catholic Church in Miami with cremation following. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2008, at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Pittsburg, Kan., and a memorial service will follow at 5 p.m., in Fort Scott at the Buck Run Community Center, 735 Scott Ave. The Rev. Jim Smith will officiate at both services.
