Violet Garber

Violet Garber, 96, Rural Montevallo, Mo., departed life's journey Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Cedar County Memorial Hospital, El Dorado Springs, Mo., following a brief illness. She was born Dec. 17, 1911, in Cedar County, Mo., to Richard Brasher and Bessie Mann Brasher. Mrs. Garber married Otis S. Garber in 1934 and had lived on the Garber family century farmstead near Montevallo for more than 74 years. He preceded her in death in May of 1991.

Prior to her marriage, she attended the Springfield Teacher's College, Springfield, Mo., and taught school for several years in Cedar and Vernon counties. She was a charter member of the Jolly Homemakers club of Montevallo and attended regularly until she was over 90 years of age. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church.

Survivors include three children, Betty June Murrah and her husband Bobby, Norman Dale Garber and his wife Dotti, both of Port St. John, Fla., and Donald Lee Garber and his wife Joyce, rural Milo, Mo.; six grandchildren, Paula Hacker, David Snyder, Kevin Snyder, Kelly Snyder, Jeff Garber and Donna Stewart; 18 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Cathern Zollman, Boise, Idaho; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Otis S. Garber, one grandson, Greg Garber, two brothers, two sisters, and one son-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 21, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Cliff Hazzard officiating. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo, Mo.

Friends may call now and until the time of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday morning between 9 and 10 a.m., prior to the service.
