Marjorie Minter Hart Carpenter

Marjorie Minter Hart Carpenter, 86, Nevada, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. She was born Dec. 30, 1921, in Milo, Mo., to Benjamin Harrison Hart and Helen Kinkead Hart. She married Harold L. Carpenter on April 27, 1942, in Los Angeles, Calif., and he preceded her in death in February 1982.

Marjorie graduated from Nevada High School in 1939. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education at Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, Mo., and a Master's in education at Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kan. She taught for 31 years in Vernon County of which 28 years were in the Nevada R-5 School District. Marjorie was a member of the First Baptist Church, Nevada and a member of the Vernon County Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include one son, Richard Carpenter, and one daughter, Shirley Conley, both of Nevada; six grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Carpenter, Lee's Summit, Mo.; several nieces and nephews and two cousins, Hank Balke and his family, of Oregon, and Phil Zimmerman and his family, of Florida.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the First Baptist Church, in Nevada, with the Rev. Hubert Fox officiating. The family will receive friends in the church foyer immediately following the service. Interment will follow in National Cemetery, Fort Scott, at a later date.

Memorials may be given in her memory to the Nevada High School Scholarship Fund in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
