Stock market stumbles; outcome hard to predict

It survived the Civil War, both World Wars and the Great Depression but Lehman Brothers threw in the towel and filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Monday. Lehman, Merrill Lynch and other big institutional investors were major participants in the commodities boom of the past year, helping push the price of oil, precious metals and grains to historic highs until a slowing global economy helped bring a halt to the rally. Tom Hissink, Edward D. Jones representative, said that the market would be volatile for quite awhile as the financial services sector deals with the credit crisis.
