Nina Maude Holmes

Nina Maude Holmes, passed away at the age of 87 years, on Sept. 19, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital. She was born Oct. 1, 1920, in Pleasanton, Kan., to Edgar Nathan and Bessie Belle Speakes. Nina united in marriage to Ned Holmes, on June 6, 1939, in Mound City, Kan. Ned preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 2008.

Nina was active in the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and was a member of the Daughters of the Nile. She was a retired secretary for the U.S.D. 259 Board of Education.

Survivors include her son and daugher-in-law, Larry and Janet Holmes, of Wichita; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Jim Peebler, of Wichita; grandchildren, Shanon Ashley, Robin Schemeiski, Jeff and Jason Peebler; great-grandchildren, Amber, D.J., Rebecca, Andrew, Saige, Londen; niece, Kathy Dee Sinclair and other nieces, nephews and relativces.

Memorials have been established with Kansas Masonic Home and Midian Plane of Mercy. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., today, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Old Mission Mortuary Services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Old Mission Mortuary will burial in Old Mission Cemetery.
