Liberal Bulldogs defeat McAuley

The Liberal Bulldogs picked up their seventh win of the year as they took down the McAuley High School Warriors in Liberal Friday night.

The Bulldogs got on the board first in the game on an 89-yard touchdown run by Jordan Meadows to take a 7-0 lead after the Colten Selvey kick with 9:35 to go in the first quarter. Seven minutes later, Liberal added another touchdown to their lead on a short touchdown run to extend their lead to 14-7.

Early in the second quarter, the Bulldogs took a three touchdown lead on another 89-yard touchdown run to make it 21-0, this time by Eathan Bray. Just over two minutes later, the Warriors were fiinally able to get on the scoreboard as Austin Metts threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Kevin O'Keefe to make it 21-7.

Liberal answered and retook a 21-point lead with 2:38 to go in the half as Bray ran the ball 27 yards for the score. Another touchdown pass from Metts to O'Keefe cut the lead back down to 14 with 35 seconds to go in the half and Liberal took the two score lead into the locker room.

Liberal needed just over half of the third quarter to reach the endzone again as Travis Shaw took a short run in for the score with 5:38 to go. McAuley needed just two minutes to answer as Metts threw a 51-yard pass to Sam Maher to make it 34-20.

Liberal put up 12 more points in the game on touchdown runs by Meadows and Bray while the Warriors only found the endzone one more time on a 25-yard run by Brant Russell to give Liberal a 46-28 win. The Bulldogs finished the game dominating not only the scoreboard, but the running game as well, as they outgained McAuley on the ground 556-40.

Liberal never threw the ball in the game and the Warriors got most of their offense threw the air, going 22-for-40 in pass attempts for 287 yards. With the win, the Bulldogs extend their record to 7-2 on the season with their next contest scheduled for this Friday night as they host Greenfield.
