Lady Tigers trounce Butler

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

The Nevada Lady Tigers volleyball team took on the Butler Lady Bears Monday night.

In the opening set of the varsity match, the two teams went back and forth at the beginning of the set, trading the first four points. After that, Nevada was able to open an 8-4 lead and never looked back.

Butler was only able to serve one point the rest of the set, with their other four coming on side outs as Nevada took the win 25-9. The second set started off in much the same way as the Lady Tigers went up 2-0 early and never lost control.

"We had a good night," head coach Becky Lowery said, "We scored early and we did not let the other team come back and get a string of points on us."

After allowing the Lady Bears to get on the board, Nevada sent Brooke Silvola back to serve and went on a 5-0 run and Nevada went on to win the set 25-13 and with it, the match.

"We did not dig our hole tonight and we did not drop our level of play," Lowery said. "We played consistent all the way through the match and we played well as a team."

Mariah Mock gave yet another strong performance on the night as she led the team in kills with 10, while Brooke Silvola put up team-highs in points with 13, assists with 11 and aces with three.

Both the junior varsity and freshman squads had similar luck on the night as well. The JV team was able to pull out the victory 25-22, 25-20 while the freshmen won 25-18, 25-20. The Lady Tigers are scheduled to finish out the regular season on Thursday as the varsity and JV squads return home to take on Webb City for Senior Night, starting at 6 p.m.
