Council to get first peek at annual budget tonight

The Nevada City Council is tentatively scheduled to hold a public hearing and take their first look at the city's 2009 fiscal budget tonight, as well as hear the annual report from the Nevada-Vernon County Cham-ber of Commerce, when they meet at 7 in the Public Safety Building, 120 S. Ash St. Copies of the budget were available for viewing last night.

Also on the agenda is the first reading of an ordinance rescinding the ordinance to have the city manager seek grant funding for the taxi coupon program and authorizing the mayor to apply for federal funding for the program.

They will also be considering first readings of ordinances to extend the block grant contract for the Nevada Municipal Airport until Dec. 31, 2008; to add $73,668.48 to the street construction budget; to consider adding four windows to the enclosed shelter at Marmaduke Park and a resolution adding one street at 1202 N. Colorado St.

Other items on the agenda include the second readings of ordinances to approve a contract with Reed Dozing and Contracting LLC. for grading at the Nevada Municipal Sports Complex; to amend the city code to change composition of the Nevada Regional Medical Center board of directors; to approve a contract with Erwin Construction Inc., for the construction of the enclosed shelter house at Marmaduke Park and an ordinance adding $19,216 to HVAC to the enclosed shelter house at Marmaduke Park.

The council is also scheduled to discuss an emergency ordinance relating to a contract with Harlan Moore as interim city manager.

An executive session also is planned.
